I was in the mood for cookies but needed to find a better chocolate chip cookie recipe. None that I’ve used really turned out how I wanted. Sometimes flat cookies are fine but other times you want a nice thick cookie. I found the perfect recipe!

A key for all baking, make sure your ingredients are not expired. I need to emphasize how absolutely important that is. I’m positive a few failed attempts on recipes was likely do to expired items. Some ingredients that isn’t such a big deal with but others greatly lose their effectiveness around a certain length of time.

I made a batch of these cookies once and the dough didn’t turn out quite right. It baffled me as to what could be going wrong. I went on a cleaning and organizing spree one day and realized my baking powder had expired. That one ingredient may have been the culprit, of course I can’t be sure. That is only a guess. Just a heads up because outside of that single issue, I have never had a bad experience with this recipe. It is practically fool proof.

This is our absolute go to cookie recipe these days. I try to keep m&ms and chocolate chips on hand just in case. You MUST try these. And please, DO eat at least a few almost straight from the oven. They are oh so delicious while still warm and gooey inside. After a day has passed, a quick 15 second or so zap in the microwave works just fine to soften them back up.

Look at that yummy gooeyness!

Soft and Chewy Chocolate Chip M&M Cookies

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 12 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 Cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 Cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 3/4 Cup all purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 Cup chocolate chips
  • 3/4 Cup M&Ms

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream softened butter and sugars. Scrape your bowl, then add vanilla and egg. Mix well and scrape bowl again. Begin slowly adding flour, baking powder and salt. Mix just until combined.
  • When the dough is completely mixed, add the chocolate chips and m&ms. Mix these in by hand. And I really do mean by hand. The best part of this is you get to lick the cookie dough off of your hands once the dough is mixed well.
  • Bake large cookies for 14 minutes and medium cookies for 12 minutes.
