Apple Cider Whiskey Smash
An easy and flavorful Fall cocktail perfect for all apple cider fans!
I love Fall and almost all it has to offer but come this time of year…oak trees are a giant nuisance. We have several lining our driveway which basically means it’s now littered with acorns. I’m not talking about a few here or there. That wouldn’t be so bad. And it’s really only just starting. We have a long way to go before the trees are bare, in preparation for winter.
The only comical part about it is listening to them fall through the branches and slam into the ground. I wonder if it’s a sign of things to come as well, especially since they’re food for many animals. Let’s hope that’s not the case…
In other news… I went to Bath and Body Works the other day in hopes of finding a fun new fragrance. The typical perfumes and sprays at other stores are so strong or floral scented… not really my thing. But, I still found myself totally overwhelmed by all of the options and scents available. Normally I just go in for soap or candles. A fragrance for yourself is a whole other ballgame. And to make matters worse, it seems like when you initially spray something, it doesn’t smell nearly as good as it does minutes later. I finally chose a fun vanilla scent but I was *this* close to getting something a bit more tropical. I guess I’ll hold off on that option till summer. AKA a lifetime away now.
I know we recently discussed how I’m not a beer drinker and that I’ve always been a fruity drinker. I’ve also never been one to drink straight liquor. I don’t see any of those things changing anytime soon. But, I also never expected to be a whiskey drinker…until my trip to Vermont last spring where I was introduced to a fun and fruity cocktail featuring whiskey. I was sold!
This apple cider whiskey smash is the perfect Fall drink (and my new personal favorite), especially if you love apple cider! It’s a must try!
A taste of Fall in a glass! Sweet local apple cider, paired with rye whiskey and a hint of lemon.
Dangerously tasty!

Oh boy Rachel. We know all about the oaks. The only nice thing is the view and the shade in the heat. In summer it’s oak chains, in September it’s acorns nailing you on the head (and hitting the roof above my bed all night and rolling down), and in fall it means 55 bags of leaves to rake at our house. Good thing we really like that shade. HA! This drink is a real SMASH! We are definitely going to try this. So simple and easy, perfect for the season!
They’re the absolute best and worst tree. Oh well!
Our huge tree out front is starting to drop it’s leaves and the rain yesterday afternoon made things worse! I think I’ll make a couple of these delicious cocktails to drink while I start the raking process that is sure to go on for the next month!
I wish we could have a dry Fall for once. We haven’t been able to jump in leaves in years!!
Beer drinker right here but I’d totally drink a couple of these, Rachel!
PS, I love the tropical scents at B&B and the cherry blossom as well (not the Japanese, just regular) but sadly, they don’t carry it regularly anymore. :P
I hate when they discontinue scents!
I used to shop all the time at Bath & Body works for my wife until she recently confessed that she just likes candles there too, doesn’t actually want to smell like anything in that store. Oops. I try! Communication is tricky! Anyhow, this looks great bringing Fall flavors into our house. Getting much cooler here now.
There are MANY scents there I wouldn’t want to smell like but would still love in my house. Funny how that works.
I don’t drink much but have some family members that would love this.
I hope they enjoy it! :)
I found your recipe as I was browsing for possible cocktails to make a batch of for people to sip on as they chat and help me in the kitchen for Thanksgiving- it sounds delicious! I was going to ask if you had made it with bourbon and how that compared, but I think my husband and I will try a taste test soon to see what we’ll have on Thanksgiving!
I hope you both enjoy it! I’m sure you could easily substitute bourbon for whiskey if that’s what you have on hand.
I let it sit for a couple of minutes, and afterwards it was delicious! I also added a little splash splash of coffee.
So glad you enjoyed it!
This is SO good!! I used Trader Joe’s honey crisp apple cider and it was the perfect fall drink. So easy to make too.
So glad you enjoyed it!
