Moist and flavorful slow cooked apple cider pulled pork shoulder. An easy dinner for any night of the week. A perfect pairing with your favorite homemade barbecue sauce!
This post is sponsored by the Ohio Soybean Council & Ohio Pork Council. Because of partnerships with brands I trust and believe in, I’m able to continue bringing you great content and recipes. As always, all thoughts and opinions are completely my own.
I’m still adjusting to my new schedule now that all of the kids are in school. Mornings are busier than ever and afternoons are full of homework and catching up. That doesn’t always leave a lot of time to spend in the kitchen. But, carving out 5 minutes in the morning means dinner is a piece of cake.
This pork takes less than 5 minutes to prep and then the slow cooker does all of the hard work for you while you’re at work or doing errands. Come home to fall off the bone, super flavorful pork ready to be devoured. It’s perfect to eat as is, but I highly recommend slathering it with sweet homemade barbecue sauce for an especially tasty sandwich!
A perfect busy weeknight (or any night) recipe!
Also, this apple cider pulled pork is magical. I’m not even remotely kidding…
My kids can be fairly choosy eaters at times, especially my youngest. But all three of them were basically begging for seconds. And, they all requested to have it for lunch the next day! A huge recipe win.
Dinner and lunch leftovers for a family of five and this meat was gone… and everyone left asking for more, which means this is absolutely happening again in the not so distant future!
Magical flavorful pork. And ridiculously easy. Do you need any other reasons to make this?
Any way you choose to eat this, you’ll be happy. Just be sure to grab a nice portion before it all disappears!

Slow Cooker Apple Cider Pulled Pork
Ingredients
- 4-5 lb pork shoulder bone-inÂ
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 yellow onion sliced
- 1 1/2 C apple cider
Instructions
- Add sliced onions to the bottom of a 5-6 quart slow cooker bowl. Place the pork shoulder on top of the onions. Sprinkle with seasonings and garlic. Pour apple cider over the pork shoulder and seasonings. Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours, or low for 8-10 hours. Pork is ready when the internal temperature reaches at least 145°F. Carefully remove pork from the slow cooker. Shred by hand using forks.
- If desired, return shredded pork to slow cooker to absorb the juices. Serve with cooked onion slices.
- Alternately, shredded pork may be served in your favorite sandwich roll with homemade barbecue sauce, red onions and pickles.
Love the flavors of apple cider throughout this pork. Definitely an easy weeknight meal!

Pork is the one thing that no matter the recipe, as long as it’s pork my whole family will dig in without any complaining. Can’t wait to try this recipe!
Same here! And thanks Carrian!
This looks absolutely amazing. My husband is always buying random jugs of apple cider to use as a liquid when he smokes meat. So even in July sometimes, we’ll have a few cups of apple cider sitting around in the fridge. Now I know what I’ll do with it from here on out!
I hope you enjoy it! :)
I am loving this. What a great twist on pulled pork! Great football food for sure!
Thanks Aggie!
Every year I have big plans for things to make with apple cider but then I drink it all before I have a chance to cook with it! I love the idea of this pulled pork though so I may need to buy extra to make sure it happens. Especially that BBQ sauce!
You HAVE to try this. You’ll love it :)
I did cut up 2 apples mixed the first on bottom with the onions.. The 2nd Apple pieces I put along side and top of roast. Oh I also added cumin in with my seasonings to add a smokey taste.
I hope you enjoyed it, Celeste! :)
