Weekend Love: 1/15/12

We’re half way through the month already, at this rate it’ll be summer before we know it! Yippee! Sorry if you love winter, it’s just too cold for me. The other day we were only suppose to get an inch of snow at most, we got 4. Then it turned to sleet and then rain, then it froze. So now we have crunchy glazed over snow. It’s pretty to look at but I’d love it gone. I know I shouldn’t complain, we were buried in snow at this point last year. What a difference a year can make, right?

(This week photos are from my phone.)

Along with the snow came snow days. One day home unexpectedly with all three kids isn’t a problem but two snow days for seemingly no reason? That was a bit much. My first grocery visit with all three kids… never again. Target with all three, no problem. There’s something about the grocery store that brings all of the craziness out. One kid wants to go one way, the other in another direction and then lil man just cracking up in his seat. And when it wasn’t that, they’d be running down the aisle or lagging behind. I should’ve strapped them into the jumbo shopping cart.

This week we ate onion rings with panko chicken tenders, only I added a bunch of Parmesan to the chicken. Yum! The onion rings didn’t stand a chance at making it to dinner. A few rounds of margaritas were had, once along with tacos. We ate plenty of other stuff but none of it is coming to mind right now.

My parents came up to visit this weekend and brought their dog along. It was fun to see how the cats were doing around a dog for the first time. Both Bonnie and Clyde were very curious and not at all scared. Not that there is anything scary about Ellsbury (the dog) anyway.

In case you missed it:
Homemade taco seasoning – This is so easy you have to do it. I’m willing to bet you have most, if not all, of the ingredients needed. Whip up a large batch and you’ll always be ready to go on taco night.
Buffalo chicken stuffed shells Creamy buffalo chicken mixture stuffed into tender jumbo shells, drizzled with buffalo sauce and sprinkled with shredded cheese. These are a fun and different option for stuffed shells any buffalo chicken fan will love. Plus, don’t forget to enter the giveaway! Giveaway is open through midnight tonight (1/15).

Link love:
Homemade vanilla extract – The Novice Chef – I never knew homemade vanilla was so simple! I definitely want to try this sometime. Have you ever made your own?
Cinnamon buttermilk pie – Nutmeg Nanny – The idea of this sounds so good! Cinnamon deliciousness and in individual servings. Yes please.
Jumbo cinnamon butterscotch oatmeal cookie – Bake Your Day – I wish I had one or two of these right now. I love a good oatmeal cookie, in fact they’re at the top of my favorite cookie list.
Chocolate peppermint cupcakes – Your Cup of Cupcake – These would be perfect for St Patrick’s Day with the pretty green frosting. And really… that’s not so far away!
Cinnamon raisin bread – The Keenan Cookbook – Bread is fun to make anytime but especially so in the winter months. Right? I’ve been wanting to make cinnamon swirl bread for a while. I think this was the kick in the butt I needed to get on that plan.

As always – have a fantastic week! :)

I am guilty of whining and a poor attitude now that we’ve had our first real snow of the year… which is ridiculous considering it is the middle of January! You are a brave brave woman taking all your kids to the store…I don’t even like taking 2 ;)

We had a few flurries the other day but no snow yet thank god! I am so ready for the warm weather.

Thanks for the link love! Make that cinnamon bread, you’ll be glad you did! Heading over to check out your buffalo chicken stuffed shells. You are killing me with all these buffalo chicken recipes – I’m fiending something fierce for buffalo again.

Whenever husband is gone & I’m forced to shop with all 3, I always go to the stores that have the seats attached to the carts. It’s a pain in the butt to push but at least I don’t have to worry about 2 year old running loose. It’s the only way to keep my sanity since I’m such a slow grocery shopper. :P

The snow is pretty! We don’t have trees around us so snow isn’t so pretty here.

I feel weird putting 4yo in that and if she’s walking than 2yo wants to walk. It’s such a battle. Good thing the store was pretty much empty though. And thankfully I don’t have to take them grocery shopping often.

I was smitten by Brandy’s cinnamon pies too–they looked great! I made vanilla extract this year for this first time and gifted it to people at Christmas. Haven’t used it yet but it smells amazing. Also I’m not looking forward to grocery shopping once I have more than one kiddo–yikes. How’s that for the most random scatterbrained comment ever?

We just finally got our first snow of the winter today, and it was only an inch or two that completely melted over the course of the day. I’m ready for spring too, is it really only January?? :)
