Weekend Love: 1/22/12

It’s been one of those crazy weeks. It was cold. We had snow, ice and wind. Apparently winter finally decided to visit the Northeast. The snow is pretty, don’t get me wrong, but I have no desire to go out in it. I’d prefer to stay inside next to a crackling fire and watch a movie, while sipping a warm drink. The fire part didn’t happen this week but I can assure you the movies and warm drinks did!

Speaking of movies, we watched Dolphin Tale today. If you haven’t seen it, especially if you have kids, you have to watch it. It’s really good. And I love that it’s based on a true story.

I got this nifty contraption and can’t wait to use it for an upcoming recipe idea. It looks totally scary and is so much bigger than I had expected.

Kids do the strangest things, right? At least ours do. They insist on wearing bathing suits in the middle of winter, use shoes as bowls, pretend to be dogs and beg at our feet to play ball or pat their heads. They definitely  make life entertaining.

Poor Clyde… he’s a good sport. Update on the kitties… besides tolerating the girls craziness … they still love playing with the girls, snuggle well and have even been caught playing with our other cat! She only comes out at night but we’re just happy they’re all getting along.

In case you missed it:
Slow cooker chicken soup – This is a classic chicken soup (note I didn’t say chicken noodle), jam packed with veggies and chicken. It’s loaded with flavor and a nice spicy kick. Toss this in the crock before work and come home to a delicious soup for dinner.

Link love:
Mini cheddar scallion monkey breads – Foodie with Family – I’ve wanted to make savory monkey bread for so long. This looks and sounds so tasty.
Baked French fries with Indian spices – Cookin’ Canuck – I have an unhealthy obsession with potatoes. I love them so clearly I love fries. These would be no exception to that.
Scallion gruyere popovers – The Cury Carrot – More cheesy bread goodness. Can you tell I want carbs… lots and lots? I need to make some form of cheesy bread in the near future.
Bourbon layer cake with bourbon ganache and milk chocolate buttercream – Love and Olive Oil – Do I need to say anything about this? Really? Cake, chocolate, liquor, frosting… just awesome. And it’s pretty too!
Cake batter truffles – Fearless Homemaker – I haven’t made any cake batter desserts yet but these look so fun! They’d be great for a birthday party.

Have a great week! :)

Lol! Love the fish crackers in the slippers. I’m with you on not loving the snow. We took Baby Boy outside yesterday for 5 minutes, his first time ever seeing snow. He wasn’t much a fan. Dog loved it though. Hope you have a good weekend. Today I’m feeling motivated – baking pretzels, sourdough baguettes, and a wild rice soup. Wish me luck. Hah.

Thanks for the link love, Rachel! Clyde in the baby toy is hysterical. Does he often do that? That marinade injector kind of freaks me out a little bit :-)
