Slow Cooker Lobster Chowder
It’s hard to believe two years have passed already. I started this journey as a way to share my adventures in the kitchen and favorite recipes. I truly didn’t expect anyone to read my ramblings, forget actually trying my recipes.
Because parties and celebrations should be shared and because this little blogging thing is even more special because of you, I cooked up something super special to share for my blogging anniversary. This would be wonderful as a special Valentine’s Day meal too.
I’m not entirely sure how the idea hit me, but I’m glad it did. Lobster is one of those things that is usually reserved for special occasions, and this is just that! This is a traditional creamy chowder, spiced just right and loaded with potatoes and lobster. It’s warm, comforting and totally decadent.
Slow Cooker Lobster Chowder
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb cooked lobster meat
- 3 1/2 C potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 15 oz corn, drained
- 3/4 C yellow onion, chopped
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp basil
- 1/2 tsp white ground pepper
- 1 tsp dried minced garlic
- 1/4 C all purpose flour, or 2Tbsp cornstarch for a gluten free option
- 1 jalapeño, diced
- 4 slices bacon, optional
- 1 1/2 C lobster stock
- 3 1/2 C Half and half, or heavy cream
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to slow cooker, minus lobster meat and bacon. Stir gently.
- Cook bacon. Drain on paper towels. Chop and set aside. Carefully add bacon grease to slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours.
- Prepare lobster meat, by cutting into bite size pieces. When one hour remains, add cooked lobster meat to slow cooker. Gently stir. Cover and continue to cook.
- Divide among bowls. If desired, sprinkle with chopped bacon and serve with crackers. Store chilled in airtight containers for up to several days.

On Valentine’s Day, I’ll be spending the evening with one of the loves of my life – my family’s German Shepherd! I’m dogsitting while my parents are out of town.
Oh, and is lobster meat something you can buy at the grocery store without buying a lobster and cooking it yourself? I’m not sure I’m ready for that, yet!
It probably depends on the grocery store, ours has live lobster but I’m not sure if they offer cooked meat as well. I went to the local fish market to get my lobster meat.

As for Valentine’s Day, the hardest part is that it falls mid-week and interrupts both of our work out schedules (the couple that builds abs together, stays together! HAHA!). So we’re planning just a little dinner at home and then when the weekend rolls around we’ll head to Palm Springs for the Modernist show. One of our favorite restos is in Palm Springs and eating there usually entails have a really good martini.
Romantic din with hubby at home! :)
I don’t have a clue…I better get busy.
I’m helping host my boyfriend’s parents when they come into town. I think we’re hoping to spend a nice dinner together, and we’ve gotten the tickets to a show. I’m planning for a nice week of shared time :)
I’m making goodie plates for my friends. Something about red and pink just makes me happy. Can’t wait to deliver them and share the love…and the chocolate!
This Valentine’s day I’m planning on having a girl’s night with some of my best friends and celebrating by seeing The Vow!
For Valentine’s Day, we’re going to avoid the crowded restaurants and have a picnic on the beach. My husband has requested salted caramel chocolate mousse for dessert.

To celebrate, my boyfriend and I will be flying to Denver, CO to spend our 8th Valentine’s Day in the mile-high city! It’s one of our favorite places, ever. Reservations have been made to try out Zengo’s prix fixe menu for the night – I’m excited! :)
ps. I liked you on Facebook :)
My two roommates and our other friend are going out to a fancy dinner in the classiest area in Berkeley! We are celebrating Galentine’s day, like in Parks and Recreation.
