Strawberry and Fudge Swirl Ice Cream

How much do you love ice cream? Would you stand in a 30 minute line waiting for your favorite ice cream stand to serve you a $3 cone? Truly, I have no idea how much ice cream stand cones cost. Once upon a time we lived in walking distance to one. Those delicious days are gone. Instead, I rely on quick fixes from the store… or on my rare patient days, I’ll whip up fresh creamy homemade ice cream.

I am completely in love with homemade French style ice cream – aka ice cream with egg yolks. Seriously the eggs make it 10000x better. Creamy, smooth, flavorful and just plain incredible. It’s not nearly as scary as it sounds either. Make it once and you’ll never go back to another style, ever again.

The lovely Brandy behind Nutmeg Nanny invited me to take part in her ice cream social event. I couldn’t resist! My only problem was deciding what to make! I was *this* close to making pistachio ice cream. Turns out, I bought a bag of salted pistachios. Pistachios are like butter in that you don’t cook with the salted variety. You just plain don’t. There are crazy inconsistencies with salted food items and it’s always better to add your own salt to an item. Have you ever had an overly salted or way under salted box of Cheez Its? Let’s not even discuss the burnt ones. I think they should sell boxes of those for the people who love burnt Cheez Its because they have no business being in my box.

I didn’t have time to go on the hunt for unsalted pistachios, so instead I made the creamiest vanilla ice cream and swirled it with sweet strawberry and fudge sauces. If you’ve ever seen my bowls of vanilla ice cream, this makes total sense. I pretty much create the most intense chocolate and strawberry puddles known to man. More sauce makes me happy. Sprinkles are always good too.

You could make this even more homemade and awesome by whipping up your own batch of fudge sauce and roasted strawberries… or just take the easy way out. I won’t tell. ;)

Hop on over to Brandy’s for the complete recipe and be sure to check out what the other girls brought to the party throughout the week! :)

This looks awesome! By the way, we live in walking distance (less than a 5-minute walk) from Jeni’s Ice Cream (owned by the author of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams At Home). So dangerous to both the waistline AND the wallet. =/
