This book is gorgeous inside and out, which clearly goes along with her beautiful creations…inside AND out! I knew her book would be jaw dropping. I’ve been in love with all of her creations shared on her site, I Am Baker. From perfect rose cakes to other flowered and surprise creations. It was no surprise she’d create an outstanding book, full of creative cakes and tips for making them.

There is a surprise in each cake. Some give you a hint from the moment you lay eyes on them. Others are a surprise until you take that first slice out. It’s like opening a birthday present. The excitement and anticipation is there, waiting to see what is inside.

Throughout the book, Amanda walks us through how to create each cake, with step by step color photos. She makes makes impressive cakes easy, holding our hands through the process with her photo tutorials.

Even new bakers can surprise their friends and family with a fun cake!

Details: One Baked by Rachel reader will win one copy of Amanda Rettke’s new cookbook, Surprise-Inside Cakes. Winner must be at least 18 years of age and a US resident. Main entry must be completed.     Oh now THIS is awesome. And your cake is beautiful! I wish I hadn’t seen the word FROZEN, because I was basking in my early morning silent bliss while everyone’s asleep and no frozen songs were in my head….noooooo longer! haha! :) Is there SERIOUSLY such a thing as a favorite cake flavor? Come on!!! Fine, lemon. Barely. Because cake, yes please.

    I love Spice cake, have since I was a young child. Now at 71 a small piece of any flavor is a treat. I bought Surprise Inside-Cakes for My Daughters B’Day coming soon, but I don’t want to give it up.

    Rettke’s cakes are beautifully creative. I’ve been trying to figure out the secret behind some of them. I almost don’t want to know – it might be like learning the secret behind a magician’s astonishing illusions.

    My favourite cake is still the one my grandmother used to make for our birthdays when we were very young. They were simple vanilla layer cakes (probably from a packaged mix) with a vanilla icing. But she topped them with a crowd of little rabbits made from cut marshmallows with faces drawn on with food coloring and tiny little bunny ears cut out of white paper.

    My favourite adult cake is a dense dark chocolate layer caker with raspberry filling and a bittersweet chocolate ganache topping. (Haven’t had that for years and can’t remember which restaurant served it but I can still picture it clearly. Might be time to find some recipes and recreate it.)

    My all time favorite cake is white with vanilla buttercream but I have a rule to never turn down a fresh piece of cake.
